The end of the school year is approaching, so it’s time to vote for your new class presidents. You may be asking yourself “What do the class presidents do?” Class presidents are a part of the West Henderson High School SGA club. The SGA club “does a lot more with promoting school events and helping with the extras of school,” said Mrs. Stepp. “We host different things for seniors, dances, pep rallies, etc.”
The SGA impacts our school by lifting up students and making West Henderson a better place. So, voting for the person you think fits the position is super important, as well as knowing who is running. The people who are running for sophomore class president are Zachary Cone, Obie Greene, Bailey Cantrell, and Ephraim Azimli. Sophomores are the only grade level where candidates are competing against one another, but the upperclassmen positions are already decided because only one person is running. Luke Schlegel is running for junior class president, Cole Reasoner is running for senior class president, Abigail Garnett is running for student body vice president, and Brady Merrill is running for student body president. SGA had decided to add a new position for social media to promote more school events and amp up the school spirit, it will be a team, so no one is running against one another. Now that you know who is running, how will you know who to vote for? Especially if you are a rising sophomore?
Students will be giving a speech to their entire class on Wednesday, April 9th. After the speech is over, students can vote for who they want to be their class president. Let’s hear from some of the candidates. Obie Greene, candidate for sophomore president, said “I decided to run because I thought I would be a good help to speak for everyone and wanted to help everyone feel included.” “[People should vote for me] because I want everyone to feel like they can trust me as the class president and talk to me about things I can change.” Luke Schlegel, candidate for junior class president, said “I want to help lead people and try to make West Henderson a better place where the student’s opinions are heard and understood.” Finally, Abigail Garnett, candidate for senior body vice president, said “I decided to run for student body VP because I wanted to help get the student body more involved in school spirit and want to listen to feedback that students have on events and improve things at our school”. So, the question remains “Who are you voting for?”
