McFarland's Bake shop has new owners.
Open Tuesday to Saturday, 7:00-5:30 pm, McFarlan Bakery is an authentic from-scratch bakery downtown Hendersonville. They have been open for over 90 years in downtown Hendersonville since 1930, but recently they have been under new ownership. The people who own it now, Meghan and Clint Hull, bought it because “we love feeding people, living in Hendersonville, and were looking for something different than what we had previously been doing. We had management experience, HR, payroll accounting, all the things you need to know to run a business…we had just been doing it for other people. We decided to explore the option and make this our new adventure,” said Hull. Since the bakery has been under new ownership, “Things have been going well! We’ve had some staffing changes, brought back some old recipes, and tried some new seasonal offerings, but for the most part have kept things the same. Our philosophy is to keep the core of the business the same – it’s served the community for over 90 years as it is, we just look for new ways to keep it relevant and growing along with the rest of downtown,” Said Hull. They make wonderfully delicious desserts, fresh each morning. “The biggest thing that sets us apart is how much we make from scratch. We start with base ingredients as much as possible, following the recipes that people have loved for decades. It’s more work, but we think it makes better food. Our best sellers are our cinnamon buns, donuts, apple fritters, and eight-layer pound cakes,” said Hull. Many more of the desserts they make include pastries, cookies, bread, cakes, and seasonal pies. Some of their countless cookie flavors include chocolate chip, tea balls, ginger and molasses, blueberry & cream, butter cookies, snickerdoodles, key lime, Scottish shortbread, and much more. Cakes can be custom ordered, including many different flavors and icings. They use good old-fashioned methods and recipes, making sure their pastries and desserts taste like the real deal.
